Power Outage
A terrorist attack on our electrical power grid could cause many of the same problems we see during natural disasters. Extended Power Outages may impact an entire community, especially communities of people with disabilities. A power outage may disrupt forms of communication, water, transportation, cause your food to spoil, contaminate your water, and prevent the use of your medical devices.
To prepare and protect yourself during such power outages remember to have backup batteries for mobility devices, such as a powerchair. Keep your freezer and refrigerator closed when not being used. Be aware that power outages may last longer than previous years. Plan for alternate power-dependent medical devices and alternative refrigerating methods to keep necessary medication cooled.
Finally, if power outages continue for more than a day, contact CenterPoint Energy for updates.
